Terming the historic verdict, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hailed the Maharashtra assembly results a victory of development' and 'defeat of lies', saying the mandate was a firm rejection of the negative politics of the Opposition. He further said the election in Maharashtra proved the maxim of "Ek hai toh safe hai (there is safety in unity" which has become a mantra to the whole country.

“It is the victory of development, social justice and good governance in Maharashtra and and it is the defeat of negative politics and dynastic politics,” Modi said in his victory speech. Referring to the poll outcome in Maharashtra as a big boost to its cadre, Modi said opposition parivarvad affected the opposition adversely and strengthened the people's resolve for a developed India by choosing Mahayuti.Addressing party workers at BJP headquarters over the historic mandate to the NDA in Maharashtra elections, Modi said, “After Haryana, the biggest message of this election is unity. ‘Ek hain toh safe hain‘ has become the ‘maha-mantra’ of the country. The sentiment of 'ek hain toh safe hain' has taught a lesson to those who make people fight in the name of caste, religion, language and region. The Congress and its ecosystem had thought that by spreading lies in the name of the Constitution, they could divide the Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) in small groups. This is a solid slap on their faces," Modi said.

Modi congratulated and thanked all the workers of alliance in the state and expressed appreciation for Eknath Shinde, Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar. Maharashtra, he said, has become the sixth state to choose the BJP for a third consecutive term, after Goa, Gujarat. Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.  He also gave a new mantra for Maharashtra. He said in the coming years, Maharashtra will run on the mantra of Vikas Bhi…Virasat Bhi.

Earlier, Modi received a rousing welcome at the party headquarters at Deebn Dayal Upadhyay Marg. The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance secured a decisive victory in Maharashtra on Saturday, retaining control over 230 of the 288 Assembly seats.

In a scathing attack on Congress, Modi said the latest round of elections has endorsed the message of development and defeated the politics of lies and betrayal propounded by the Congress and its allies.

Modi said divisive forces, negative politics and dynasticism have been defeated in the Maharashtra election and bypolls in various states. He said the people of Maharashtra have voted for stability and taught a lesson to those who tried to create instability.

"Every segment of the country voted for BJP... The Congress is unable to gauge this changed mood of the country. They don't want to understand the reality. The voter does not want instability. The voter is with the nation first feeling," PM Modi said, in a harsh takedown of the Congress.

"People have made divisive forces bite the dust. The Congress and its allies have failed to grasp the changed realities of the country's mood," the prime minister added. He asserted that voters do not want instability and they believe in nation first and do not like those dreaming about "chair first".

Voters in Maharashtra also evaluated Congress on the basis of the false promises made in other states like Karnataka, Telangana and Himachal Pradesh, he added. "Neither their false promises nor their genda worked in Maharashtra," Modi said.
