In a shocking case of alleged death by suicide, a 31-year-old National Security Guard (NSG) officer died in his barrack at the Sudarshan Camp near the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport with his service weapon. According to the police on Wednesday, the deceased has been identified as Narender Singh Bhandari, serving with the NSG on deputation from the Indian Army.
The officials said that he was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A Police Control Room (PCR) call regarding the incident was reported on Tuesday.
Reacting to the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport) Usha Rangnani said, "On Tuesday, a PCR call was received regarding a suicide incident at the NSG Sudarshan Camp near Shiv Murti. Upon receiving the information, police personnel promptly arrived at the location, where the body of Narender Singh Bhandari, an NSG staff member on deputation from the Army, was found inside his barrack."
"Preliminary inquiry suggested that he suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound," Rangnani said. No suicide note was recovered the place of the incident according to a senior police official. While prima facie it looks like a case of suicide, the police are investigating the matter from all angles and ascertaining the cause of the suicide.
The DCP further said that forensic and mobile crime teams have examined the scene and collected evidence in the matter. "He was declared brought dead at Safdarjung Hospital. Further investigation in the incident is underway," she added.
