Come summer and birds get in need of human's help. Birds do sustain injury. Most of their injuries are man made but relief to injuries come very few from humans.
A Malabar Pied Hornbill was rescued in the Bareysarn range of the tiger reserve Palamu quite recently. The forest guard and tracker discovered the bird in distress.
The bird had beak bleeding and was facing difficulties in flying. The bird was kept in the soft release centre meant for sambhars at Bareysarn.
It was given some local treatment. The bird rested for a few hours and then it flew.
Manish, a GPS cum camera trap expert and a dedicated bird watcher of the tiger reserve Palamu said our field director Kumar Ashutosh and our officials have directed us to save birds in distress.
He said we want common people also to come forward to help birds in distress.
Sources reminded there was a tree on platform number 1 at the Chiyanki end in Daltonganj railway station which was the home for around 1000 birds but now that tree is gone and the birds have found their new night shelter.
About three years ago a leg injury ridden cattle egret bird was given surgery and her one leg was amputated. A noted bird lover girl Jyoti had not only rescued this cattle egret but had nursed her like a sister and allowed her to fly only when the bird assured her of her flying capacity after the amputation.
