The Yogi government has accelerated efforts to set up 3,000 pink booths across the state and provide pink-coloured scooters to 10,417 women constables under Safe City Project. A proposal in this regard has been prepared and submitted to the government by the Women and Child Protection Organisation and is likely to be implemented soon after the approval of the state government.
In the first phase of the project, it has been decided to construct pink booths at 20 religious places in nine cities of the state, while instructions have been given to provide electric scooters to 1,100 women beat constables in 17 municipal corporations and Gautam Buddha Nagar. The construction of pink booths and the provision of scooters for this phase have been given a timeline of three months.
It is worth mentioning here that the Safe City Project is to be completed in three phases in Uttar Pradesh. The first phase includes 17 municipal corporations along with Gautam Buddha Nagar. In the second phase, 57 district headquarters' municipal corporations will be included and in the third phase, 143 municipal corporations will be connected to the Safe City Project.
ADG Women and Child Safety Protection BP Jogdand said that in the first phase of the Safe City Project, pink booths would be constructed at 20 religious places in nine cities of the state, including Varanasi, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Mathura, Gorakhpur, Agra, Balrampur and Chitrakoot.
Jogdand added that the single-storey pink booths would be built at all these locations, and that the Home department had sent a proposal of Rs 1.66 crore for this purpose. Additionally, a letter was written to the police officers of all the nine districts to identify the land for the pink booth and share the information, out of which reports had come from many districts.
ADG mentioned that as soon as the budget was released by the Home department, the construction work for the booths would commence.
“In the second phase of the project, 501 pink booths will be built in municipal corporations, while in the third phase, 2,480 pink booths will be constructed in the remaining cities of the state,” he said.
ADG further said that in the first phase of the project, two Global Positioning System (GPS) equipped pink scooters would be handed over to 550 police stations of divisional headquarters and Gautam Buddha Nagar, which would be used by 1,100 women beat constables. For this, a proposal of Rs 15.60 crore had been sent to the Home department.
As part of the Safe City Project, the Women and Child Safety Organisation has prepared a 6-month calendar to raise awareness among women and girls in the first phase, covering 17 municipal corporations and Gautam Buddha Nagar. This calendar has been handed over to the Information and Public Relations department. Currently, the department is actively promoting the first phase in all the districts. Additionally, the department is conducting awareness programs through radio jingles and community radio.
