A Maoist involved in attacks on security forces in 2020 in Chhattisgarh's Balrampur district and carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakhs on his head has been arrested, police said on Friday.
Sarjun Yadav alias Putna alias Phutan was apprehended on Thursday from Bhagalpur village in Jashpur district and brought here by the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) and the district police force, Balrampur Superintendent of Police Lal Umed Singh said.
Yadav was a Military Platoon member of the outlawed Maoist outfit between 2018 and 2020.
He was involved in firing on three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel near Jaljali village in Balrampur district in 2020 in which one person was injured.
He joined the Naxalite organisation in 2018. Then, he joined the Maoists' Regional Eastern Bureau (ERB) senior Naxalite cadre Navin Yadav and was involved in several Naxalite incidents.
In 2021, Yadav left the Maoist and went underground. He was living with his family in a rented house in Bhagalpur village. He was produced before a court which sent him to prison.
