Congress candidate from Raipur South Mahant Ramsundar Das has been served a show cause notice for failing to submit his election expenditure account on November 6, an official communiqué said on Friday.
The election expenditures are to be audited three times; the audits have been scheduled for November 6, 10 and 15.
The returning officers have served show cause notice to 16 more candidates who had failed to submit their expenditure accounts.
Das is locked in a close contest with BJP's Brijmohan Agrawal, who has represented Raipur City South for seven consecutive terms.
Second phase of elections is scheduled for November 17. Votes from both phases will be counted on December 3.
