The Defence minister Rajnath Singh will soon visit the border areas in Uttarakhand. The State’s Soldier Welfare minister Ganesh Joshi said this after meeting the Defence minister in the national Capital. The proposed visit assumes significance as Uttarakhand has international borders with China and Nepal.
Joshi met Singh and also requested him to release the budget for infrastructural development in Uttarakhand’s nine cantonment boards. He also requested the Defence minister to inaugurate the underpass costing Rs 50 crore near the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun. He said that the underpass has resolved the problem of traffic jams on the main road outside the academy and thanked Singh for this. Regarding the areas under cantonment boards, Joshi said that it is vital to release the budget for improvement in roads, drinking water schemes and solid waste management in such areas. After the meeting, Joshi informed that the Defence minister will soon tour the border areas in Uttarakhand. He also thanked Singh for the increased facilities for ex-servicemen in CSD canteens.
