Chhattisgarh uses AI tracking to avoid human-elephant conflict

Thursday, 08 June 2023 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

An artificial intelligence (AI) based "Chhattisgarh Elephant Tracking and Alert App" has been developed by the Forest Department and mobile alerts are sent through it to residents of affected villages to avoid elephants.

An official communiqué said an alert over elephant activity within a 10-km radius was sent to the villagerss registered mobile numbers. When the elephant trackers record any elephant movement inputs on the App, the app sends alerts on the mobile phones of the villagers.

The wildlife wing and the forest management information system (FMIS) collectively developed this App.

This application uses AI based on information provided by Elephant Trackers (Hathi Mitra Dal). With the exception of "Munaadi," performed by elephant trackers, this App sends notifications to everyone in the affected villages.
