In a horrific murder that shook the national Capital a 16-year-old girl was stabbed over 20 times and then stoned to death in full public view in Shahbad Dairy area late on Sunday night.
The accused has been arrested from Bulandshahr, in Uttar Pradesh. Identified as Sahil the 20-year-old works as a fridge and AC mechanic. The horrific attack was caught on CCTV and the video footage went viral. The video showed the girl walking down the street when she was intercepted by the accused, who stabbed her over 20 times with a knife. The act was so ferocious that at one point the knife got stuck in the head of the victim. The accused then picked up a heavy cement slab lying nearby and started hitting her.
Shockingly, the murder took place in full view of people who can be seen passing within inches of the attacker, but no one stops or says anything as the girl falls to the ground and the attacker continues his assault. The horrific attack lasted for 90 seconds and this includes him kicking her body. The accused is seen walking away from victim in a casual manner only to turn back and again hit her with cement slab before leaving site.
According to police, preliminary findings from the post-mortem indicate the girl was stabbed 16 times and her skull was crushed after it was bashed in by a blunt object. The detailed report has yet to be released.
Police said the accused and the victim were in a “relationship” but had a quarrel on Saturday. The victim had gone shopping on Sunday evening for the birthday party of her friend’s child when she was accosted by the accused in the densely populated neighbourhood, they said. The police suspect that continued “strained relationship” of the accused with the girl could be a possible reason behind the crime.
Delhi Police PRO Suman Nalwa said the accused Sahil worked as a fridge and AC mechanic. He lived in a rented accommodation with his parents and three siblings in Shahbad Dairy area.
“Police reached the crime spot after some locals informed them about the incident. Her body was found lying on the road in a pool of blood,” a senior official said.
A case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Shahbad Dairy police station on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim’s father, the police added. Police said the weapon used in commission of crime is yet to be recovered. The victim’s father is a labourer, and the girl had passed Class 10 this year. The victim’s parents and her brother, who are residents of JJ Colony in Shahbad Dairy, said she was staying with her friend Neetu for the last 15 days since the latter’s husband was out of Delhi for work. Recalling Sunday’s event, Neetu, who has two children, said the victim was busy organising the birthday party for her daughter and went to the nearby market to get a dress for the child. She informed Neetu that she wanted to use the washroom and was going to their common friend’s place.
Neetu claimed that the girl and Sahil often fought with each other but she got to know about their “friendship” only six months ago. Seeking justice for their daughter, the victim’s parents demanded capital punishment for the accused. They said neither she nor her friends had told them about Sahil.
Soon after the incident, the accused along with his family fled after locking their house. Their landlord, Ramphool, said that the family had been staying at his place as tenants for the past two years and Sahil usually kept to himself. “He was an ordinary youth who lived with his parents and three sisters. He kept to himself and never argued or indulged in any kind of fight.
