Roads to have dividers, footpaths for pedestrians

Friday, 27 October 2023 | Pioneer News Service | prayagraj

Following the footsteps of the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA), the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) has identified 34 roads of the city to make them smart.

Under the project the identified roads will have dividers along with footpaths for pedestrians on both the sides and greenery on the roadside or divider, which will be maintained by the PMC.

Under the Chief Minister Grid scheme the roads which are 10 metres or more wide have been identified for the initiative. Recently, chief engineer PMC Satish Kumar inspected the roads after which the municipal commissioner Chandra Mohan Garg forwarded the details of the identified roads to the state government. A high-level committee will study these and after a formal approval, the detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared.

Thereafter, the government will allocate the budget for making these roads ‘smart’ on the basis of revenue collection of the PMC. The PMC is expected to get an amount of around Rs 53 crore for these roads under the CM Grid scheme this year.

In another development, the municipal corporation has issued guidelines for installing street lights in the newly-created wards of the city. Poles ranging from five metres to 12 metres high will be installed in the newly-created wards under the municipal limit of the city. LED lights ranging from 30 watts to 150 watts will be installed on these poles. The work of installing and maintaining lights will be assigned to private agencies.

Following the guidelines issued by the PMC, street lights will be installed in Jhunsi, Naini, Phaphamau and Jhalwa areas of Prayagraj, said Satish Kumar. The responsibility of the installation and maintenance of street lights in the newly-created wards of the city will be handed over to different private agencies.
