An MBBS girl student was brutally thrashed and dragged by her hair when she opposed ragging in Hapur.
The victim is a student of Saraswati Medical College in Hapur district.
The victim, a native of Ranchi, has lodged an FIR against five students. She alleged that the accused thrashed her, tore her clothes and dragged her by her hair as she resisted her humiliation in the name of ragging.
The girl also revealed that students had been harassing her in the name of ragging for over five months. She also alleged that the accused were pressuring her to throw a party and offer them liquor.
"Around 8 pm on Tuesday, Anu Sihag, Ankita Choudhary, Mohit Agarwal, Navneet Tyagi and Sarthak Singhal intercepted me near a housing society near the college. The accused tore my clothes and twisted my hand and smashed my head in the wall," the student alleged.
The victim managed to rescue herself and informed the college management about the incident. She also reached the police station and filed a complaint against the accused.
"The matter has come to our knowledge. The girl does not reside on the college premises. We are probing the matter at college level. We have come to know that the girl had a dispute with other students who live in a hostel. Proper action will be taken in the case," said RC Purohit, principal of the medical college.
"Prima facie, we have come to know about the girl being beaten up. The FIR mentions ragging. If the allegation of ragging is found to be true, then we will increase the charges. We are probing the matter from various angles," claimed Superintendent of Police of Hapur Deepak Bhukar.
