To achieve the target of making the state's economy one trillion dollars, the government has turned its focus on increasing the Gross Domestic State Product (GSDP) and for this department-wise targets have been fixed.
Officials claim that the government has increased the target of the Information Technology (IT) and Information Technology Enabled Services (ITeS) sector from Rs 56,548.4 crore ($6.93 billion) to Rs 6,03,840 crore ($74 billion) over the next five years.
Sources say that Yogi Adityanath government is soon going to bring a new IT and ITES Policy-2022, which is likely to be approved in the cabinet meeting. Under the new policy, 4 IT Cities, 18 IT Parks and three Centres of Excellence will be developed in the state through private developers.
“Government plans to attract big companies in the IT sector like IBM, Exchanger, Tata Consultancy to the Global Investors’ Summit (GIS-2023) to be held in February. With this, the contribution of the IT and ITeS sector in the state's GSDP is expected to increase from 2.3 per cent to 7.4 per cent by 2027. At the same time, the growth rate is expected to increase from 23 per cent to 61 per cent. This has been approved in a presentation to the chief secretary in this regard recently,” the official said on Wednesday.
IT Cities will be set up in four regions of the state namely Paschimanchal, Madhyaanchal, Purvanchal and Bundelkhand. These IT Cities, to be spread on 100 acres, will be developed by private developers. For this, the government will give 25 per cent reimbursement on capital investment, with a maximum limit of Rs 100 crore.
Similarly, IT Parks will be developed in five acres and 25 per cent reimbursement will be given on the expenditure of Rs 20 crore on this. Besides, 100 per cent rebate in stamp duty will be given on purchase of land in both these schemes. Three Centres of Excellence will be set up to promote research, innovation and entrepreneurship in the IT and ITeS sectors. Reimbursement up to 50 per cent of the total project cost will be given on them, the maximum limit of which will be Rs 10 crore.
Special Secretary (IT and Electronics) Akshay Tripathi, said, “We are going to make IT and ITeS the growth engine of the state's economy. For this, IT Cities, IT Parks and Centres of Excellence will be set up through private developers. With this, the IT graduates of the state will not have to go to any other state and they will be able to get the same job in UP.”
