A special lecture on “Cyber Security and Digital Economy its Implications” was organised by the Department of Economics, Central University of Odisha (CUO) on August 10.
DIG (South Western Range) Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao was the distinguished speaker for the programme. Vice Chancellor I/c of the university Prof Sarat Kumar Palita inaugurated the programme and delivered the inaugural address.
He briefed about the importance of cyber security in the present digital world. Dr Minati Sahoo, HoD, Department of Economics, gave the welcome address. Prof Asit Kumar Das, Registrar, CUO talked about cyber security challenges in a growing economy.
Uttamrao spoke how people are victimised by cyber frauds by giving live examples of cyber victims in his lecture. He talked about various cyber-crime methods, suggested various measures on how one can prevent becoming a victim of fraud and cautioned everyone about the risk of using Public Wi-Fi. He concluded with applicable sections of IT Act and IPC on cyber-crimes.
The concluding remark was given by Prof Sunil Kanta Behera, Visiting Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication. He spoke about the dependency of nations on economic opportunity and the growth of nations in the digital world, as the world community is increasingly connected in cyberspace.
