16 district water testing labs get NABL accreditation

The National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) has accredited Chhattisgarh’s 16 district level water laboratories for testing drinking water quality under the Jal Jeevan Mission.The water testing laboratories are in Durg, Balod, Rajnandgaon, Kabirdham, Bemetara, Raipur, Mahasamund, Gariaband, Dhamtari, Balodabazar, Bilaspur, Raigarh, Korba, Mungeli, Kanker and Jagdalpur districts. The remaining eight districts have also applied for NABL accreditation, an official communication said on Thursday. The target is to bring sub-divisional level laboratories by March 2022 under the Jal Jeevan Mission for NABL accreditation. The citizens of the state can get private source of water tested through the NABL accredited laboratories.Chhattisgarh has also completed 11,642 (99.8 percent) of Gram Panchayats for testing drinking water sources in rural areas. So far, 79,689 women have been trained in water testing as ‘Jal Bahini’ in 11,642 Gram Panchayats. The chemical water testing of 3,13,501 (65 percent) drinking water sources has been done in the current year.Meanwhile, domestic tap connections have been provided to 7,66,733 families (15.78 percent) in the state. Pure drinking water has been provided to 100 percent families of 132 villages.
