Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Sarmad Hafeez visited picturesque Kokernag earlier this week and threw open many tourist facilities for the convenience of the visitors.
Interacting with locals and visitors, Hafeez said the government intends to promote Kokernag to its befitting prestige and has many initiatives planned for the same.
The Tourism Secretary shared that as a matter of policy the Department has decided to expose lesser-known destinations to tourists. He said destinations like Sonmarg, Yousmarg, Doodpathri et al are already being brought in the visible spectrum of tourists and dedicated areas housing adventure sports, recreational activities and promotional activities shall be initiated soon at Kokernag, to make it equally attractive for tourists.
Hafeez mentioned that the government has also decided that cleanliness and sanitation shall be maintained at all tourist destinations across Jammu & Kashmir. For this, he said, regular sanitation drives are being held at the tourist destinations besides conducting awareness camps for the locals and stakeholders alike, for maintaining the ecology of tourist places for their upkeep.
Directors, Tourism, Kashmir, Dr G N Itoo and Vivekanand Rai were present on the occasion, along with the CEO of Kokernag Development Authority and other senior officers.
