MUSBA HASHMI tells you how designer Rahul Mishra has collaborated with a luxury jewellery brand of Tata Group for the Paris Fashion Week
What comes to the mind when one thinks of fashion? Fancy clothes made up of high-end materials, lots of glimmer and a bunch of glittery jewellery. But that’s not all. There’s a whole lot of imagination, ideas and hard work that goes in too. Zoya X Rahul Mishra’s new collection is an exemplar. The duo have teamed up to showcase their designs in the Paris Fashion Week.
Mishra, for his collection Metropolis Part I, drew inspiration from the metropolitan cities and the nature. “The designs are indicative of how we have started living in nothing less than small boxes aka apartments that we call homes. We are slowly drifting away from the nature,” he says and tells you that he doesn’t want to make unnecessary designs just for the sake of grabbing few eyeballs.
“My idea of fashion is to create sustainable designs that are worth wearing even after like five years down the line. I don’t want to create something that bites dirt after a certain period,” he tells you.
The five signature designs from Mishra’s collection, paired up with Zoya’s exclusive jewellery, were displayed during the curtain-raiser event.
“We have experimented with shades in this collection. We have used cotton, silk and satin for this collection. Some designs are made of cotton with intrinsic thread work on them. There is a floral pattern on white dresses. All the looks are different from each other yet similar. One thing common in all of them is that they all are inspired from nature. And, the reason I collaborated with Zoya is because the jewellery compliments my designs. It is like form meets fashion,” Mishra tells you.
It took Mishra months of hard work to come up with the collection. “I am very particular about every weave, embroidery, silhouette and finish. There was a time when I thought of redoing the designs. I thought they were not good enough, but then with time, expertise, effort and a lot of ifs and buts, I came up with the final collection,” he tells you.
Revathi Kant, Chief Design Officer, Titan Company Limited says that Zoya, an exquisite diamond boutique from The House of Tata is all about luxury jewellery. And even though Tata already has Tanishk under their name, there is no competition between the two.
“The two brands are very different. We understand what our consumers want from us and we follow that. Zoya is all about fine specially made jewellery with a completely different line of products. Tanishk has a different brand identity,” she says and tells you that all the prices are on demand.
No look is complete without jewellery and this is what the brand abides by. “We have a lot of different collections —Rhapsody, Whispers from the Valley, Hollywood Blvd. and PezzoD’Arte to name a few. All the collections depict one thing or the other. For instance different seasons in Kashmir inspire Whispers from the Valley, where rows of tulips, orchids of green apples, snow-capped peaks and trees of the iconic Chinar were taken inspiration from. While Hollywood Blvd. is inspired by different eras that capture the glamour of Hollywood’s most iconic eras; from the essence of flapper fashion of the 1920s to the art deco of the 1950s and the red carpet looks of the 2000s. And Pieces from the contemporary Italy inspired collection PezzoD’Arte captured the timeless marvels of Italian architecture,” Kant tells you.
