The Special Cell, the anti-terrorist cell of the Delhi Police, has busted two international drug cartels and have arrested six drug peddlers with 20 kilogram (kg) of fine quality heroin estimated to be worth Rs 80 crore in the international market. The gang members were involved in the trafficking of drugs from Manipur and neighbouring country Myanmar. They have been supplying drugs to buyers in Delhi and its adjoining areas.
The accused have been identified as Mausam Ali (30), Chhote Khan (55), Sanjay (36), Jalil Khan (50), Sajid Ali (32) and Shakir (27) all residents of district Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh (UP). Police have also seized an SUV car and a truck used in transporting the contrabands.
They were supposed to deliver the huge consignment to drug peddlers in Delhi. Sleuths of the Special Cell (Northern Range) developed specific information about two different interstate narcotic cartels who are active in the states of West-Bengal, UP, Punjab, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh, members would come to Delhi to deliver consignment of heroin to one of their Delhi based contact.
“Following the tip off, police teams were stationed to identify and nab the members of the both cartels. They were apprehended with a total of 20 kg heroin in their possession which they had hidden in car and truck,” said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Special Cell.
“Incidentally Sajid Khan was arrested by Delhi Police Crime Branch last year in a case of drug peddling and was released a week before. Sajid bought a new truck and drove to Manipur to take the consignment. He had hidden the drugs in a especially created cavity in the belly of the truck”, the DCP said.
“During interrogation Mausam Ali, Chhote Lal and Sanjay disclosed that they have been indulged in trafficking of narcotic drugs for last about 3-4 years. They used to receive supply of heroin from Jalil and Mustaqim, both residents of Bareilly in UP. They used to further supply these consignments of heroin, as per the directions of Jalil and Mustaqim, to various persons in UP, Punjab and Delhi-NCR areas. To avoid being detected by law enforcement agencies they made inconspicuous cavity inside their SUV,’ said the DCP.
“One of the accused, Jalil disclosed that he used to receive crude heroin from suppliers of Bareilly and thereafter he used to prepare pure heroin at his secret hideouts. While Sajid Ali and Shakir revealed that they have been indulge in trafficking of narcotic drugs for last about 4-5 years at the behest of Rashid who is also a resident of Bareilly. To avoid detection by law enforcement agencies he used to hide heroin packets between clothes,” said the DCP.
“A case under section 21/29 of Narcotic Drugs Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at special cell police station. Further investigation is going on,” the DCP added.
