Modi attacks Cong on Pitroda's ’84 riot brag

Saturday, 11 May 2019 | PNS | Rohtak

Stepping up attack against Congress over its party leader Sam Pitroda remarks “Hua toh hua” (it just happened) on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that this shows the character of the Congress.

“Yesterday, one of the top Congress leaders said the 1984 riots just happened ('Hua toh Hua'). These three words sum up the arrogance of the Congress,” Modi said at an election rally here in Haryana on the last day of campaigning for the sixth phase of Lok Sabha polls.

“This leader is close to the Gandhi family, a good friend of (the late) former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and a 'guru' (mentor) of Congress chief Rahul Gandhi,” Modi said without naming Pitroda and calling upon the people of Haryana to teach such people a lesson during the voting for the 10 Lok Sabha seats on May 12.

Pitroda, the head of the Overseas Congress and a close aide of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, on May 9 had said, “hua toh hua” (it just happened) about the anti-Sikh riots. He made this remark in response to a question on the riots by a mediaperson in Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh.

The Prime Minister said that the Congress ruled the nation for 70 years and the tenure was filled with arrogance. Poor became poorer, corruption went on increasing, black money ruined the economy of the nation and the Congress remained a mute spectator, Modi said.

“Thousands of Sikhs were killed outside their homes but today the Congress is saying 'Hua toh Hua'. Sikhs were targeted in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and other states. The rioters were led by the Congress. This sin was committed by every small Congress leader,” he said.

He described Congress as a party insensitive to the Sikhs who became victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots

In his 23-minute speech, the Prime Minister took a dig only at the Congress. He was in Rohtak to seek votes for party’s candidate Arvind Sharma, who is pitted against three-time MP and Congress candidate Deepender Singh Hooda.

Hitting out at the Gandhi family, Modi said that the Congress tradition is to ensure the progress of just one family.

Lauding the contribution of venerated Jat farmer leader Deenbandhu Sir Chhotu Ram, Modi said that the dream of Bhakra Nangal Dam was seen by Chhotu Ram but the ungrateful Congressmen did not even take his name. In Congress, there is only dynasty and one family which is respected, the Prime Minister added.

He said that not only the farmers, the Congress did not even spare our Jawans who were totally neglected during their regime.

It is the BJP Government which ensured the construction of various memorials including the National War Memorial and the Police Memorial.

The Congress never talks about national policy and national security, he said.

He added that the BJP is committed to the agenda of ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ and with each Haryanavi ensuring that his each vote will go the account of Modi only, the country will be able to move forward with strength.
