ICAR- Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology (IIAB) organised a ‘Farmers Training cum Farm Machinery Distribution Programme’ at Soparam village in Latehar district on Friday under the aegis of Scheduled Caste Sub- Plan (SCSP) of the Government of India with nearly 350 farmers from Diridag, Semarsot, Munda Toli and Chetag of Balumath block attending the programme.
ICAR-IIAB is playing a crucial role in the implementation of various schemes for agricultural development and farmers’ welfare in the State. During the programme, 10 Kirloskar Mega T (15 HP) Power Tillers with accessories, 10 Kirloskar 5HP Varsha-4 diesel pump sets with accessories, 6,000 feet of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes, 40 battery operated Agrolife (16 lit) pesticide sprayers and 350 bags of fertilizers were distributed among 10 groups of 12-15 farmers each.
A training programme focusing on farm mechanization, resource conservation technologies suited for the region and the problems arising during the kharif season with their potential solutions was conducted with Director (Research Birsa Agriculture University Prof. DN Singh, Director ICAR-IIAB Dr. TR Sharma, Principal Scientist ICAR-IIAB Dr. VP Bhadana and Head KVK, Balumath Dr. Mahesh Kumar Jerai being the key speakers.
Led by Senior Scientist Dr BK Singh and Scientist Dr Avinash Pandey, ICAR-IIAB has been organising events under the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP), SCSP, Farmers First Project and Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) for the last three years. Several capacity building programmes have been conducted and agricultural inputs have been provided to nearly 2500 farmers in 6 districts of Jharkhand to promote agriculture, agroforestry, horticulture, animal husbandry, poultry, and fishery.
