The police on Wednesday claimed to have busted a fake call centre racket which was functioning from Sohna Road and was dupingpeople on the pretext of providing jobs. The police have arrested 14 people, including eight women in connection with the case.
Acting swiftly on the complaint by Rahul Kaushik, a resident of Ashok Vihar Phase-3, a police team started investigations and raided the call centre ‘Anasdivi Infotech Pvt Ltd’ located on Sohna Road, where a large number of men and women were engaged in making calls to people for lucrative jobs. When the accused were unable to produce a valid license for running the centre, the police arrested 14 of them.
Two laptops, 10 mobile phones, 10 sim cards and Rs 1.50 lakh have also been recovered from their possession where the scam was operational. The probe has also seized two Yes Bank accounts.
A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including the IT Act has been registered against the culprits at the Cyber Crime police station, Gurugram.
However, the police suspect the culprits were middle run operators and the mastermind of the crime is yet to be arrested.
“A complaint was received that a fake call centre had cheated several people on the pretext of job. The case was assigned to the cybercrime branch of Gurugram for investigation. The culprits were employed at the call centres, which were being operated without permission,” said Shashank Kumar Sawan, DCP headquarters.
During the questioning, the accused revealed that they had made a job website ‘careerzap.in’ and used to call people for a job. They had collected the data of the victims from the Times Job call centre and duped the victim on the pretext of resume modify and job and charged fees via Paytm gateway, the police said.
“The fake call centre was running for the last nine months and when the victim starts calling them for their refund they had closed the website and switched off their phones. The culprits had again made two more job site ‘the timesnow.in’ and ‘careersbuzz.in’ to dupe people,” the DCP, said.
Also, the centre did not have any license issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DOT). “The matter is under investigation. As of now how many persons they have duped and how they were operating the fake call centre it’s a part of an investigation, said the DCP.
According to the police, the accused were identified as Aamir Tufail of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, Mohit Singh of Uttarakhand, Dinesh Sharma of Faridabad, Lillu of Rewari, Amit Kumar of Delhi, Pankaj Kumar of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Archna Srinivas of Palam Vihar, Gurugram, Shinu of Sector 39 Gurugram, Vandna of Sector 38 Gurugram, Chanchal of Delhi, Hema Vishwakarma of Satna, Madhya Pradesh, Priya of village Choma, Gurugram, Preeti of village Carterpuri, Gururgram and Anjali of New Delhi.
