Eight persons of Bisra block of Sundargarh district, who had gone to Tamil Nadu to work there, have alleged being tortured at their workplaces. The family members of the bonded labouers have requested for their early release.
According to sources, one agent of Bisra block, had lured 11 persons of Chingajharan village to work in in a drinking water factory in Tamil Nadu. They were assured of Rs 12,000 per month salary and Rs 3,000 per months towards two hours overtime work every day, besides free boarding. One, Ashok, a person of Dhanbad, had called all these persons to Tamil Nadu, over mobile.
Out of these persons, one Bablu Badaik and Jagnarayan Badaik were engaged in a garage. When they protested Ashok and two of his associates severely beat them. Thereafter, they snatched mobiles and money from them and threatened them that they will be paid Rs 9,000 per month salary and have to work for 16 hours a day.
Thereafter, they engaged Raju Lohar in a painting shop. Other 8 persons were engaged in digging of bore well work and when they protested, Ashok and his associates severely beat them in a closed room. Unable to bear the torture at work place, Rathu Lohar, Birsa Lohar and Muna Lohar managed to flee from work place and reached their village recently. They narrated about the torture on them at work place and also told about plight of their co-workers there.
