Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh, who is Congress nominee on the Bhopal seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha election, here on Wednesday said he is ready to face any contestant from the BJP.
When asked about reports of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's name being pitched against him, Singh told media persons, “I am ready to face anyone. I will accept whomsoever BJP will field against me. I have no issues at all.”
Surprisingly, The AICC had named Digvijay for Bhopal seat on March 24, but the BJP failed to decide its candidate for the seat till date.
Notably, BJP has held the Bhopal seat since 1989 – winning it consecutively eight times. In 2014, BJP’s Alok Sanjar won the seat with a margin of around 3.7 lakh votes. However, it may not be a cakewalk for the BJP.
In the 2018 Madhya Pradesh state elections, Congress won three out of the seven assembly segments that come under the Bhopal parliamentary constituency. The constituency also has a 20.71 percent.
Admitting that it will be a tough contest, Digvijay thanked Congress president Rahul Gandhi for fielding him from the Bhopal Lok Sabha seat.
Meanwhile, Digvijay also addressed party workers in Bhopal and slammed the NDA-led central government over the Indian Air Force's airstrike on Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) camp in Pakistan's Balakot.
He said BJP leaders were giving different numbers of terrorists killed in the attack. Digvijaya told party workers that BJP has one sole agenda of spreading hatred between Hindus and Muslim.
"In this country, if there is somebody who has fought against terrorism, then it is the Congress party. BJP has only compromised with terrorists (samjhaute kiye hai). Congress party has never compromised with terrorists," he said. Raising questions over the Pulwama terror attack in which around 40 jawans of CRPF were killed on February 14, Digvijay questioned why the convoy of CRPF was not transported via air.
