Cong ‘misused’ CBI to frame Amit Shah in Sohrabuddin case: Yogi

Thursday, 03 January 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Accusing the Congress of being soft towards terrorists, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the grand old party had misused government machinery to falsely implicate the then Gujarat Home Minister, Amit Shah, in the controversial Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case in 2005 and it should apologise to the nation for this act.

Yogi said the Congress had played with the security of the country by playing in the hands of anti-national elements.

“The recent verdict of the special CBI court clearly states how Congress leaders like Sonia Gandhi and the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were instrumental in implicating Amit Shah though earlier the Bombay High Court had freed him in the same case,” Yogi said.

Addressing a hurriedly called press conference here on Wednesday, Yogi Adityanath said the Congress, which was instrumental in the anti-Sikh riots, had done everything to hit the country’s security by supporting the anti-national forces.

“Shah had to struggle for years for no fault of his. He was jailed and his family was harassed. Various allegations were levelled against him but now the judiciary has cleared his name from this controversy. Earlier, the Supreme Court had given a clean chit to Amit Shah,” the Chief Minister said and asked the Congress to apologise to the nation for using CBI for its political agenda.

Recently, a special court of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had said that there was no evidence against Amit Shah in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case.

The encounter took place in Gujarat on November 23, 2005. The Gujarat police had  then claimed that Sohrabuddin had come to kill Narendra Modi who was the Chief Minister of Gujarat at that time.

Yogi said the Congress had conspired to crush its political opponent by misusing power and administration.

“The Congress party continued to crush justice and the Constitution to end its political competitors by abusing its administrative powers during the United Progressive Alliance days,” Yogi said.
