Former Samajwadi Party MlA Rampal Yadav from Biswan (Sitapur) joined Bahujan Samaj Party in lucknow on Wednesday.
After being denied ticket by the SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, he contested the 2017 Assembly poll as a lok Dal candidate but after the elections, he returned to the SP and was closely identified with Shivpal Yadav camp.
In April last year, Rampal was expelled from Samajwadi Party by the then state chief Akhilesh Yadav for maligning the party’s image and his involvement in illegal activities.
The lucknow Development Authority (lDA) had razed Rampal’s illegal complex in lucknow in April last year and arrested him along with eight others, including his kina and former SP MlA Rajendra Yadav, for attacking the lDA team and clashing with the police during the demolition.
Rampal was sent to 14-day judicial custody by a lower court after being booked under various sections of IPC including 307 (attempt to murder) and 7, Criminal law Amendment Act.
But after Shivpal took over as state SP chief from his nephew, he revoked Rampal Yadav’s suspension.
In 2015 too, Rampal Yadav was suspended from the SP during the Panchayat polls for fielding his son Jitendra against the SPs official candidate for the post of district panchayat chairman. Jitendra Yadav won the election.
