Tension prevailed in Barabanki after the bodies of a young couple belonging to different communities were found hanging from a tree on Tuesday morning. Although police suspected the couple might have committed suicide, they did not rule out possibility of honour killing. The bodies were sent for autopsy and a probe was initiated. Heavy police force was deployed in the area to avert any face-off between the communities.
As per reports, Amit of Tarshamepur hamlet of Satrikh police station area was in a love with his neighbour, identified as Bano. They wanted to get married but their families were opposed to it. In a bid to end the relation, Amit’s family sent him to Gorakhpur for a job in a private firm. In the meantime, the girl’s family fixed her marriage elsewhere. The marriage was to be soleemnised on November 4.
After learning about Bano’s mariage date, Amit returned from Gorakhpur last week and opposed the move. On Tuesday morning, villagers found the bodies of Amit and Bano hanging from a tree in an orchard.
