Satisfaction, in all that comes your way, is the key. One who is not satisfied can’t focus and will keep looking for satisfaction all his life, writes Yogi Ashwini
Picture this: A driver is driving his vehicle, but instead of looking at the road, he is busy enjoying the scenery. A shooter has to shoot at an apple kept on the head of a person, but instead of looking at the apple he is preoccupied with tree. What will the end result beIJ In fact, not just looking, even if for a short while their focus shifts, it will result in catastrophe.
Now close your eyes and observe what is it that is going inside the brain; give it two minutes. You will find so many thoughts running in your mind — children, family, spouse, business, emotions. It is because of these thoughts or desires that you are unable to go beyond human existence and are unable to find peace and happiness in the human body. All that is physical is temporary and what is temporary is painful.
When the mind is engaged in thoughts of the physical, it cannot think of anything beyond because at one point of time, it can only do one thing and think of one thing. To modern science’s surprise, this was documented in ayurvedic texts many years ago. Ayurveda also says that at one point of time, only one of our senses is active. They alternate so fast that we cannot make out.
Our body is programmed to achieve whatever it wants, provided it is one thing. Sanatan Kriya details this. Words like ekagrata, ek tatva nirantar abhyas, and bhumadhya all indicate that the path to success is one-pointed focus. The problem starts when our desires divide. Multiplicity of desires leads to ambiguity. This lack of understanding of what one actually wants leads to success evading; it is like putting the five litres of petrol you have in five different cars, and none will move forward.
The basis of focus is desire. Whatever is your desire, that decides your focus. If you do not desire something, you cannot achieve it also. It is the multiplicity of desires that causes our focus to divide and lead to success evading. life is changing constantly and with every passing moment desires also change. And what are the desires ordinarilyIJ Job, relationship, money, power, wealth, property — desires are never-ending.
A person who is not satisfied with a modest house, even if all his needs are being met, will not be satisfied with a big house also and will be looking for an even bigger one. A person who is not satisfied with a small car will not be satisfied with a luxury car as well.
There is just one focus in life and that is satisfaction. If you have satisfaction, then you will have desire for that thing that satisfies you, and when that desire becomes firm, it becomes your focus. And the moment you are able to still yourself on that one thing — any one thing — then in that very thing you will find Shiv. Shiv can only be achieved by him who is satisfied. It is important to understand here that all that one chases in his life is temporary and bound to leave. Even the body is not forever and perishes.
As a kid, I knew of three doctors whom I thought could get my family out of any problem. The doctors were excellent and did it every time, so I thought nothing could go wrong with my family. But then today, neither of the three doctors is alive. So if the doctors could not stay, till when can you or I liveIJ
Satisfaction, in all that comes your way, is the key. One who is not satisfied cannot focus and will keep looking for satisfaction all his life. Try to increase your threshold. There should be satisfaction even in pain, for that too is a product of your own doing.
When you are satisfied, you can focus and you will be satisfied only when your desire is real. Yoga is the process of changing your desire from unreal to real because what is unreal will anyways go, and what is real will never go. The purpose of yoga is not to improve your business or relation, it is to change your desire; the former is a bottomless pit.
Focus comes with satisfaction of desire. When you are satisfied and desire is focused, then it doesn’t matter what goes or comes because all this has to go.
All this is unreal. If the desire is changing every moment, then you cannot access that shakti. Focus should be on everything and nothing, and this happens only when you are satisfied, and you are satisfied only when your desire is met, whether spiritual or physical, hence the role of a guru.
Only a guru can take you to that state, it is not possible otherwise. If one could understand this science, by reading or hearing, there would be no need for a guru. Till about 1,500 years ago, Vedas were transmitted orally from guru to shishya for this reason only, because they knew you cannot get gyan like that. If it was so simple, then there would be no need for a pyramidal structure of creation, everyone would be entitled for moksh.
Guru is the basis of satisfaction. Otherwise you cannot get satisfied with anything because there is always something better. Guru makes you differentiate between real and unreal. For that to happen, you have to make a guru, and for that, you have to have the desire of a guru. Creation is run on desire; there is no other purpose to creation. If you can, then take your desire to one thing.
