Tribulations of a policeman enacted on stage

The story of a police officer, and the trials and tribulations he goes through marked the first day of Police Kala Mahotsav.

A cultural programme is being organised at Bharat Bhavan here from Friday.

The ‘Police Kala Mahotsav’ is being organised by Indian Police Service (IPS) Association. Under the three-day event the citizens will witness various cultural programmes including film screening and plays. Also a painting exhibition is also put up at the gallery.

A Hindi play ‘Wardiwaley’ was staged hre on Friday at Antarang Hall, Bharat Bhavan to mark the first day of the event.

Directed by Ashok Bulani and written by Vijay Shanker Mehta, the play was presented by Rang Samooh theatre group, Bhopal.

The play is all about the story of a professor who and his family members are tortured by the some students of his college with some goons. This all happened because he denied to increase their marks in exam papers illegally.

The goons beat up the professor, his wife and his son and misbehave with his daughter. But when he goes to the police station to register an FIR against the goons, TI of police station says to bring proof after that he will take action.

The play highlights the agony of the TI and also shows how they have to work under pressures.

It also shows that how a corrupt TI becomes an honest officer and helps the professor punish the goons. The play is based on the real story of professor Tiwari of Ujjain.

Director Ashok Bulani said, “The play is all about a real incident that happened around 20 years back in Ujjain. Vijay experienced this issue very closely and so he wrote a play on it. It sends out a message that the people keep faith in our system and how honestly policemen can function.”
