Ukraine appoints Serhii Koretskyi as new Prime Minister in major wartime reshuffle

Ukraine's parliament has approved Serhii Koretskyi as the country's new Prime Minister, marking a significant leadership change as the nation continues to confront the ongoing war with Russia. Koretskyi, the former chief executive of state energy company Naftogaz, secured the support of 289 lawmakers in the Verkhovna Rada, replacing Yulia Svyrydenko as part of a broader government reshuffle led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Before the parliamentary vote, Koretskyi outlined his key priorities, including strengthening Ukraine's defence capabilities, maintaining economic stability, ensuring reliable energy supplies and accelerating the country's integration with the European Union.
Lawmakers described him as an experienced administrator capable of managing the country's wartime challenges. The appointment comes amid sweeping changes in Ukraine's government as Kyiv seeks to improve governance and sustain its war effort.
The reshuffle also follows public debate over recent changes in the country's defence leadership. Observers say Koretskyi's experience in the energy sector will be crucial as Ukraine prepares for another challenging winter while continuing to pursue economic recovery and closer ties with Europe.
