Two members resign from Manipur Waqf Board

Imphal, Sep 8 (PTI) Rajya Sabha MP A Sharda Devi and another member resigned from the Manipur Waqf Board, according to a notification issued on Tuesday.
Orders issued by the state government's Minority Affairs Department said Devi and Kojam Modhusudon Singh, who was appointed as a member from the Bar Council of the state, have resigned as members.
The Manipur government had notified the constitution of the 8th Waqf Board on August 3, appointing seven members, including Devi and Singh.
Devi, who is also the state BJP president, and Singh submitted their resignation letters on September 3 and September 4, respectively, the notifications said.
The governor subsequently accepted their resignations.
The development comes amid protests by members of the Muslim community in the state against the appointment of non-Muslim members to the Waqf Board.
