Trump says US could take over Strait of Hormuz, claims Washington will be paid for security role

US President Donald Trump has said that Washington could take control of the Strait of Hormuz and serve as its guardian amid rising tensions with Iran, adding that the US would be compensated for securing the strategic waterway.
In an interview, Trump said the United States would “take over” the Strait of Hormuz and could potentially manage operations in the region. He claimed that if the US assumes responsibility for protecting the key shipping route, it would receive financial reimbursement.
The remarks come amid growing tensions between the US and Iran over security concerns surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints through which a significant portion of global energy shipments passes.
Trump also stated that Iran had not received any benefits from his administration, while reiterating Washington’s position on protecting strategic interests in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz has remained a major flashpoint in Gulf geopolitics, with any disruption to traffic through the waterway raising concerns over global oil supplies and energy markets.
