Vijay directs ministers, officials to coordinate Nepal flood rescue operations
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Thursday reviewed the situation arising from the devastating floods in Nepal and directed state officials and ministers to coordinate rescue, relief and repatriation efforts for people from Tamil Nadu affected by the disaster.
Vijay chaired a review meeting at the Secretariat with senior ministers and top officials, including Chief Secretary M Sai Kumar, to assess the situation and the steps being taken to assist those stranded in Nepal.
The state government said Vijay directed Ashish Kumar, IAS, Resident Commissioner of the Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi, along with a team of officials, to travel to Kathmandu. The team will coordinate with the Nepalese authorities on relief and rescue operations and facilitate the safe return of survivors.
The chief minister also asked four ministers — Adhav Aruna (Public Works), A Rajmohan (School Education), R Vinoth (Agriculture) and K Thennarasu (Non-Resident Tamils) — to travel to Delhi. They will coordinate with the Union government, monitor rescue and relief operations, assist in the speedy return of those rescued and arrange immediate medical support where required.
According to the Tamil Nadu government, 106 people from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry had undertaken the Manasarovar Yatra. Following the floods in Nepal, the whereabouts of 20 people who were stranded had been ascertained as of Thursday.
The state government is coordinating with authorities to gather further information and assist those affected by the disaster.
