Tamil Nadu to hold special drive to enrol voters left out during SIR

The Election Commission will conduct a special voter enrolment drive across Tamil Nadu for people who were left out during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and young or first-time eligible voters, Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik said.
Patnaik chaired a meeting with district officials on Thursday following directions from the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding the enrolment drive.
"The Election Commission of India, in its communication dated September 29, 2026, has directed that in States/UTs where the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has already been completed, a special drive shall be undertaken by the Chief Electoral Officer, District Election Officers and EROs for the enrolment of left out and young/first time eligible electors under the process of continuous updation," she said in a release here.
Patnaik clarified that the Declaration Form attached to Form 6 will be used only during the SIR phase. During the non-SIR period, the forms prescribed under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, will be used, she said.
The Election Commission released the final electoral roll for Tamil Nadu on February 23, under which 74.07 lakh names were deleted under various categories. The final roll had 5.67 crore electors. (with inputs from PTI)
