Tamil Nadu Poll Results 2026: Vijay near majority TVK eyes alliance support to form Government

Tamil Nadu Election Results 2026 have placed actor-turned-politician Vijay at the centre of government formation talks, as his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged as the single-largest party with 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly.
Falling short of the majority mark of 118, TVK has begun reaching out to other parties for support. The Congress, with five seats, has extended its backing, taking the tally to 113. The party is also exploring support from smaller allies, including CPI, CPM, and VCK, to cross the majority threshold.
Sources indicate that TVK leaders have also approached Edappadi K. Palaniswami-led AIADMK for possible support. However, AIADMK has maintained that the decision now rests with Vijay, with internal discussions ongoing within the party.
The results have significantly altered Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, with the ruling DMK led by M. K. Stalin reduced to 59 seats, while AIADMK secured 47 seats.
Following his party’s strong debut, Vijay has been elected leader of the TVK legislative party and is expected to meet the Governor to stake claim to form the government. Sources suggest he could take oath as Chief Minister as early as May 7.
Meanwhile, the Congress decision to support TVK has drawn criticism from DMK leaders, who termed the move a betrayal. At the same time, Congress leaders have defended their stance, calling it a strategic decision in line with the evolving political situation.
With intense negotiations underway, the focus now remains on whether Vijay can secure the required numbers to form a stable government and mark a new chapter in Tamil Nadu politics.
