Sudha steps up global play as PM Modi highlights India’s rising dairy footprint

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India’s growing global footprint in cheese and dairy, it reinforced a clear signal that Indian dairy is ready for the world stage. For Sudha, the flagship brand of Bihar’s dairy cooperative movement, the moment has translated into a renewed push to expand its global presence.
Building on this momentum, Sudha, under the Bihar State Milk Cooperative Federation Ltd (COMFED), is accelerating its efforts to tap international markets, with a focused strategy for the Gulf and Southeast Asia.
A key step in this direction was its participation at Indus food Asia 2026 in Singapore, where Bihar’s dairy strength was showcased before a global audience of buyers, distributors, and industry leaders.
The delegation was led by Shirsat Kapil Ashok (IAS), Secretary, Department of Dairy, Fisheries & Animal Resources, Government of Bihar and Chairman, COMFED, along with Sameer Saurabh (IAS), Managing Director, COMFED.
The visit saw active engagement with international stakeholders to explore trade partnerships, strengthen market linkages, and enhance the visibility of Sudha’s product portfolio.
“India’s growing recognition in the global dairy space is a moment of opportunity for cooperative brands like Sudha. Our focus is to build a strong international presence while ensuring that the benefits of this growth reach our farmers,” said Ashok.
He added, “Platforms like Indusfood Asia allow us to directly engage with global buyers and understand evolving market expectations. Bihar’s dairy sector has both the scale and the quality to compete internationally, and we are committed to taking Sudha to new markets.” Sudha’s expansion
strategy builds on its strong domestic base and a vast network of dairy farmers across Bihar. The cooperative model ensures that value created through global market access translates into improved incomes and stability for producers.
Saurabh said, “Sudha has established itself as a trusted brand in India, and we are now focused on extending that trust to international markets. With targeted outreach and consistent quality, we see strong potential in regions such as the Gulf and Southeast Asia.”
The brand has already initiated pilot exports to select international markets and is now working towards scaling up its presence through improved supply chain systems, enhanced packaging, and alignment with global quality standards.
The global spotlight on Indian dairy, highlighted recently by the Prime Minister, has further strengthened the case for brands like Sudha to expand beyond domestic markets. With increasing demand for quality dairy products and growing acceptance of Indian offerings, the timing is seen as favourable for such a transition.
Sudha exported 5.7 metric tonnes of ghee to the US and 5.0 metric tonnes of gulab jamun to Canada in March 2025.
