Pune Garbage Dump Collapse: Death toll rises to 8, search on for one missing person

The death toll in the Moshi garbage dump collapse in Pune's Pimpri-Chinchwad has risen to eight after rescue teams recovered seven more bodies from the debris of the damaged administrative building at the Waste-to-Energy (WTE) project.
Officials said one person remains missing, and search operations are continuing with the help of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), fire services and other emergency agencies.
The incident occurred when a massive heap of accumulated garbage collapsed onto the administrative building inside the municipal waste processing facility, trapping several workers. Rescue teams have been using heavy machinery and specialised equipment to clear debris while working in difficult conditions. Authorities have said the operation will continue until the missing individual is located.
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the collapse and assess whether safety protocols were followed. The tragedy has raised concerns over waste management practices and worker safety at large municipal waste processing facilities.
