Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya opens exhibits on Narasimha Rao, VP Singh

Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya inaugurated exhibitions on former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao and a unique exhibition as a tribute to former Prime Minister VP Singh, which marks his birth anniversary on July 25.
NV Subhash, grandson of the late Narasimha Rao, inaugurated the beginning of a programme to commemorate the 105th birth anniversary of Rao. Nripendra Misra, Chairman of EC, PMML, hosted the Chief Guest in the presence of Priyanka Mishra, CEO, Pradhanmantri Sangrahalya.
The exhibition presents a curated collection of rare photographs, official documents, speeches, personal correspondence, and other archival materials that trace Rao’s life and public service. Special attention has been given to his leadership during a crucial phase in India’s modern history and his pivotal role in initiating the economic reforms of liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation that reshaped the country’s economy.
A major highlight of the display is its portrayal of Narasimha Rao as a multifaceted personality — scholar, freedom fighter, reformer and visionary statesman. Audio-visual presentations and selected archival records provide visitors with deeper insight into his contributions to governance, diplomacy, economic transformation and intellectual life. Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya said the exhibition aims to celebrate the enduring legacy of the leader commonly regarded as an architect of modern, globalised India, and to foster greater awareness of his contributions among students, researchers and the general public.
The exhibition on VP Singh traced his journey from his early life to becoming the Prime Minister of India through archival documents, rare photographs, and newspaper clippings. It also showcased a selection of poems written by VP Singh, offering visitors an insight into his literary contributions alongside his political legacy. A special highlight of the exhibition was the display of 19 original paintings created by Singh.
“On the eve of the 105th birth anniversary of the late PV Narasimha Rao, Bharat Ratna awardee and former Prime Minister of India, I feel honoured and privileged to be here at the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya. Narasimha Rao was a great scholar, statesman, and politician — the first South Indian to become
Prime Minister. A multilingual leader, he always placed the nation first, the party next, the family after, and himself last. Rare are such leaders who consistently think of the people. This photo exhibition will inspire the youth, showing how an ordinary person from a poor family in a remote village could rise to become Prime Minister through sheer hard work and vision for the country,” said NV Subash, who is a BJP leader.
