Three killed, seven injured as jeep crashes into tree in Maharashtra’s Nanded

Three people were killed and seven others seriously injured after a speeding jeep crashed into a roadside tree in Nanded district of Maharashtra, police said on Tuesday.

The accident took place around 6 pm on Monday at Totamba forest ghat in Kinwat tehsil.

According to police, the victims, all residents of Pardi village in neighbouring Telangana's Nirmal district, had travelled to Nanded to visit a waterfall and a temple.

They were returning home when the driver allegedly lost control of the jeep. The vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a large roadside tree with considerable force, an official said.

The three people killed in the accident were identified as Tum Sailu, 60, Tum Gourabai, 60, and Awala Gangadhar, 55.

The impact left the jeep badly mangled, trapping several passengers inside. Local residents helped rescue those who were stuck in the vehicle.

The seven injured passengers were given preliminary treatment before being shifted to a hospital in Kubeer in Telangana for further medical care, the official said.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident, including how the driver lost control of the vehicle.
