Goa-Delhi IndiGo flight returns after engine failure, lands safely

A Delhi-bound IndiGo flight carrying 229 passengers returned to Goa about 30 minutes after takeoff on Tuesday and made an emergency landing at Manohar International Airport after one of its engines reportedly failed mid-air, sources said.

The aircraft landed safely at the airport in Mopa, North Goa, they said.

IndiGo flight 6E 2102 departed from Goa for Delhi at 9.16 am. After an engine failure was reported, Air Traffic Control (ATC) declared a full emergency at around 9.30 am and the aircraft landed safely on runway 28 at 9.51 am, a source said.

An airport official confirmed that 229 passengers were on board the flight.

"The flight returned after one of its engines developed a snag," the official said.

An IndiGo spokesperson said a technical issue was detected shortly after takeoff while the aircraft was operating from North Goa to Delhi.

"Following the standard operating procedure, the relevant authorities were informed, and the pilots turned back and landed the aircraft safely at Manohar International Airport," the airline said in a statement.

The aircraft is currently undergoing maintenance checks and will resume operations only after obtaining the necessary clearances, IndiGo said.

The airline also said it had made alternative travel arrangements for the passengers to reach their destination.
