Militant, student leader arrested in Manipur's Imphal East over alleged kidnapping, extortion

A militant and a student leader were arrested from separate locations in Manipur's Imphal East district for their alleged involvement in kidnapping and extortion, police said on Tuesday.
Waikhom Hero Meetei, 23, an active member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Nongdrenkhomba), was arrested on Monday from Sanjenbam Khunou by a joint team of security forces, an official said.
Police alleged that Meetei was involved in the kidnapping of a woman from her residence in Imphal East district.
In a separate operation in the Luwangsangbam area, security forces arrested Waikhom Sena, 24, president of the Manipur Students Federation (MSF). Police said Sena was also an active member of the banned National Revolutionary Front Manipur.
According to police, Sena was allegedly involved in drafting and publishing articles on behalf of the outfit on social media platforms and in dailies.
He was also allegedly involved in unauthorised money transactions.
Security forces recovered Rs 2.67 lakh, allegedly extorted, along with a laptop from Sena, police said. (with inputs from PTI)
