Money dispute leads to alleged assault on Shiv Sena youth leader at Thane police station

A Shiv Sena youth leader was allegedly assaulted inside the Kopri Police Station in Thane on Monday night, police said, triggering brief tension in the surrounding area.

The man, identified as Siddhesh Abhange, is affiliated with the ruling Shiv Sena.

Police said the incident reportedly followed a monetary dispute between Abhange and some women involved in the textile business.

As the dispute escalated, both sides went to the Kopri Police Station to settle the matter. However, an argument broke out inside the station, leading to a physical altercation, police said.

A businesswoman, accompanied by another person, allegedly attacked Abhange inside the police station, according to police.

Personnel on duty intervened and separated the two sides, bringing the situation under control.

Police said the process of registering an FIR was underway and statements from both parties were being recorded as part of the investigation into the alleged assault.  (with inputs from PTI)
