Special voter enrolment drive to be conducted across Keralam: CEO

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Kerala, D Sajith Babu, on Wednesday announced a state-wide special drive to enrol eligible voters and said district collectors have been instructed to oversee the exercise.
According to a statement issued by the CEO, the directions were given to district collectors on October 5 to conduct the enrolment campaign across the state.
As part of the drive, digital help desks will operate at village offices from October 15 to October 31 to assist applicants with the enrolment process.
The CEO said applicants will no longer have to submit the additional declaration form that was previously required. Instead, they will have to file online Form 6 as prescribed by law through the Citizen Service portal or the Voter Helpline app.
Applicants must submit one of 12 documents establishing their photograph, age and address along with the application. Those providing Aadhaar will also have to submit an additional supporting document, the CEO said.
Booth-level officers (BLOs) will subsequently verify the applications by conducting visits to the applicants' homes.
The CEO also said electoral registration officers (EROs) have been asked to examine significant differences between the electoral roll that came into effect on January 1, 2025, and the roll in force immediately before the Assembly elections.
Another verification at the ERO level will examine how many applications that remained uncollected during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) were eventually included in the electoral roll published after the elections.
The CEO also announced a separate initiative to encourage young people to enrol as voters. The campaign, titled "Campus to Booth", will target colleges and higher secondary schools.
A week-long enrolment campaign will begin on November 2 under the tagline "Step Forward, Get Counted", he said.
District collectors have also been directed to encourage maximum student participation in election-awareness programmes through electoral literacy clubs. (with inputs from PTI)
