Jan Suraaj seeks justice in Bhojpur encounter case

Jan Suraaj Party on Sunday held a candlelight march in Patna, demanding “justice” for the man who was killed in a police encounter in Bihar’s Bhojpur district.
Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, a resident of Bilauti village in the Shahpur police station area of the district, was killed in an encounter with police on Wednesday.
“The manner in which the social worker was killed in a so-called encounter is tragic and condemnable. We are holding this candlelight march to demand justice for the victim,” the party’s state president, Manoj Bharti, told reporters.
He claimed that Tiwari had long raised public issues and fought for people’s rights.
“We seek a swift judicial inquiry into the matter alongside suspension of all officials involved in the killing until the investigation is completed. We also demand a Government job for a member of the victim’s family and compensation of Rs 1 crore,” Bharti said.
The Bihar Government on Saturday announced a judicial inquiry into the recent police encounter in Bhojpur district in which Bharat Bhushan Tiwari was killed.
The Bihar Police has suspended four policemen, including the Station House Officer (SHO), in connection with the incident.
Former MLA and Jan Suraaj leader Kishore Kumar Munna accused police of acting “impartially” and said that “a fair investigation at an earlier stage might have prevented Tiwari’s death.
Describing the suspension of SHO as “inadequate”, Munna asked for lodging a murder case against senior district police officials.
He alleged that incidents of fake encounters had increased in the state since the formation of the new Government under Samrat Choudhary.
