Jaipur Anti-Encroachment Drive: Mosque, Temples Among Structures to Be Demolished

In a major anti-encroachment operation in Jaipur, authorities have suspended mobile internet services in several areas as precautionary measures ahead of a large-scale demolition drive along the Nandpuri underpass in Jagatpura.
The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is carrying out the operation to widen a road running parallel to a railway line up to 80 feet. The drive includes the demolition of five religious structures—comprising a mosque, two temples, a satsang building, and a mazar.
Officials stated that around 3,000 police personnel have been deployed across the area to ensure law and order during the operation. Prior to the action, the JDA had already cleared 134 encroachments and issued time to those managing the remaining structures to voluntarily remove them. With the deadline now expired, authorities have proceeded with the demolition under strict security arrangements.
To prevent the spread of rumours and maintain public order, mobile internet services, along with bulk SMS, MMS, and social media platforms, have been suspended from midnight of June 8 to midnight of June 9 in Jaipur North and Jaipur East police districts. However, voice call services remain functional.
Officials also confirmed that electricity supply in the immediate vicinity has been temporarily cut as part of security protocols. Drone surveillance has been deployed to monitor the situation closely.
Divisional Commissioner V Saravan Kumar said the restrictions were necessary due to the risk of misinformation and potential disturbances. Jaipur Police Commissioner Sachin Mittal also warned of strict legal action against anyone attempting to spread communal tension or false information online during the operation.
