J&K Police detain notorious drug peddler under PIT-NDPS Act, arrest 4 others with narcotics

Jammu and Kashmir Police intensified their anti-narcotics drive today by detaining an alleged notorious drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act and arresting four more persons in separate operations across Samba, Kathua and Rajouri districts.
According to police, Sanjay Kumar alias "Sanju", a resident of Phalata village in Udhampur district, was detained under the PIT-NDPS Act following a detention order issued by the competent authority. He has been lodged in District Jail Bhaderwah in Doda. Police described him as a "notorious peddler" involved in drug-related activities.
In separate operations, police arrested Anil Kumar of Ghagwal in Samba district and seized 1.720 kg of poppy straw from his possession. Another accused, Yogeshwar Singh, was apprehended in Vijaypur after officers recovered 10.14 grams of heroin during a search of his car, which was also seized.
In Kathua district, police arrested Sandeep Kumar after recovering five grams of heroin from his vehicle at Hatli Morh. Meanwhile, in Rajouri district, Naim Naseer alias Raja was arrested near Bhella Bridge with 2.63 grams of heroin.
Police said all four accused have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, adding that the crackdown is part of the Union Territory's sustained campaign to dismantle drug trafficking networks and curb the narcotics menace.
