J&K security tightened ahead of tourist rush

Ahead of the peak tourist season in the Kashmir Valley, bravehearts of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are gearing up to protect tourists by launching multiple anti-terrorist operations to neutralise terrorists hiding inside thickly forested areas. In the aftermath of the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam last year, the CRPF has created 43 temporary operating bases in higher reaches to carry out Operation All-Out.
These bases, established above the height of 6,000 feet, house troops for a few days, who launch search and assault operations in the heights where terrorists are holed up in temporary
shelters. Each temporary operating base houses about two dozen troops, apart from some personnel of the local police, they said.
The first such base was created in July 2025. So far, 26 such bases have been established in the Kashmir region while the remaining 17 are in the Jammu area, sources said.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and other security forces used one such temporary operating base to eliminate in July the three terrorists who were responsible for the Pahalgam attack. This operation was called ‘Operation Mahadev’.
According to the latest assessment of various intelligence agencies in the region, there are about 100 foreign terrorists who are active and have set up safe hideouts deep inside the forested areas. The local police and other security personnel are keeping a tight vigil on the activities of the local overground workers to choke their supply lines and prevent them from supplying ration supplies to help them sustain bad weather conditions in the upper reaches of the valley.
