INDIA Bloc to write to CJI on electoral roll revision, demands Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation

Leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc resolved to write to the Chief Justice of India over concerns related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged irregularities in the electoral process, while also demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over issues linked to NEET and CBSE examinations.
Addressing a joint press conference after the meeting in New Delhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said opposition parties had reached consensus on several key issues and would jointly raise them at national forums.
The opposition alliance decided to send a letter to the Chief Justice of India seeking intervention on concerns surrounding the electoral roll revision exercise and what leaders described as threats to electoral fairness and democratic processes.
The bloc also unanimously called for Pradhan’s immediate resignation, alleging that students and aspirants had been adversely affected by controversies surrounding national entrance and board examinations.
Apart from electoral and education-related issues, the alliance urged the Centre to convene an all-party meeting to discuss the country's economic challenges, including unemployment, inflation, farmers’ concerns, and broader social and welfare issues.
Kharge announced that INDIA bloc leaders have agreed to meet every two months, with the next meeting scheduled to be held in Hyderabad in August. The alliance also decided to strengthen coordination during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament through regular consultations among opposition leaders.
The meeting witnessed participation from several prominent opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, Omar Abdullah, and Mehbooba Mufti, along with leaders from Left parties and other regional outfits.
The gathering took place amid efforts by opposition parties to reinforce unity and formulate a common strategy against the BJP, even as some constituent parties continue to differ on regional political issues.
While several alliance partners participated, some parties that have distanced themselves from the bloc in recent months were absent from the meeting.
