Himanta meets Japanese minister and envoy in Guwahati

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday met with Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Iwao Horii, and the Ambassador of Japan to India, Keiichi Ono, along with a Japanese delegation, at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Dispur. Held in a cordial atmosphere, the meeting underscored the need to establish Assam as a priority and strategic destination for investment. Chief Minister Sarma highlighted Assam’s rapidly growing economic potential, investor-friendly policies, improved connectivity, strong push in infrastructure development, and its strategic advantage as the gateway to Southeast Asia under the Act East Policy.
Both sides discussed the scope for enhanced Japanese investment in Assam across sectors such as infrastructure development, renewable energy, manufacturing, information technology, semiconductor industries, skill development, and sustainable development.
The Minister informed that several Japanese companies have expressed interest in investing, particularly in the semiconductor project being developed at Jagiroad.
The meeting also explored expanding cooperation to create greater employment opportunities for Assam’s youth in Japan through Japanese language training.
Minister Iwao Horii invited the Chief Minister to visit Japan to further advance bilateral cooperation. The Chief Minister, in turn, invited the Prime Minister of Japan and Japanese industry leaders to visit Assam to deepen mutual friendship and explore the State’s vast investment potential.
He reiterated that the Government of Assam is keen to build a stronger economic and strategic partnership with Japan. Chief Secretary Dr Ravi Kota, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr KK Dwivedi, and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
