Govt approves holistic study for MAMC campus redevelopment

The Delhi Government has approved a comprehensive and holistic study for the redevelopment of the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) campus.
Announcing this, the Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the MAMC is spread across approximately 137 acres of land, and its campus includes key institutions like Lok Nayak Hospital, GB Pant Hospital, Guru Nanak Eye Center, and the Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences.
She noted that the entire campus functions as an interconnected healthcare and academic ecosystem and therefore, the need for its planned, integrated and long-term redevelopment has been felt for a long time.
Keeping this in view, the Delhi Government has approved a consultancy assignment to undertake a comprehensive assessment of the campus and to prepare a long-term redevelopment strategy.
The work will be carried out in three phases.
According to the Chief Minister the first phase will involve the preparation of a detailed master plan for the entire campus, ensuring full compliance with local body regulations, norms of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), and all applicable statutory provisions.
The master plan will be designed with a vision for the next 30 years, taking into account future requirements and expansion possibilities.
In the second phase, a structural audit and technical evaluation of the existing buildings will be conducted. Based on this, modern designs, layouts, and redevelopment proposals for new infrastructure will be prepared.

In the third phase, all tender-related documents will be prepared and technical support will be provided throughout the tendering process to ensure timely and efficient execution of the proposed works.
The comprehensive project will include planning and design of hospital and academic buildings, along with the development of multi-storey residential complexes, hostels, nursing facilities, a fire station, sanitation systems, internal roads and connectivity, advanced security arrangements, cafeterias, parking areas, and multi-level parking facilities.
All supporting infrastructure will also be integrated to transform the campus into a fully modern, well-organized, and efficient unit.
The consultant will prepare digital ground surveys, detailed engineering drawings, technical documents, and a Detailed Project Report (DPR).
The chief minister said that the MAMC campus is a crucial pillar of Delhi’s healthcare system, where medical services and education operate simultaneously.
The objective is to develop the entire campus into a modern, well-structured, and future-ready ‘Integrated Healthcare and Education Hub’.
The Chief Minister further stated that the government aims to develop a model campus in full compliance with all statutory standards, capable of meeting the needs of Delhi’s residents for decades to come.
