GoC Spear Corps reviews operational preparedness in Manipur

Lieutenant General Girish Kalia, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Spear Corps, visited forward areas and key military garrisons across Manipur on Thursday to assess the prevailing security situation, operational preparedness, and capability enhancement initiatives being undertaken by troops deployed in the State.
During the visit, Lt Gen Kalia conducted an aerial reconnaissance of areas affected by the recent Tangkhul-Kuki clashes to review the evolving security dynamics in the region.
He later visited forward Army locations at Kangvai, Sendra, Litan and YKPI, where he interacted with commanders and personnel stationed on the ground.
The GOC commended troops for their professionalism, operational vigilance, and commitment towards maintaining peace and stability in sensitive areas of the State.
As part of his engagements, Lt Gen Kalia also visited Somsai and Kakching Garrison along with the Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) and other senior officials, underlining the close coordination among security agencies operating in the region.
At Somsai, Army officials briefed the GOC on the security situation in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.
He appreciated the formation for maintaining a high degree of operational readiness in strategically important and sensitive areas.
At Kakching Garrison, Lt Gen Kalia reviewed ongoing counter-insurgency operations, emerging security challenges, and measures being implemented to enhance operational capabilities. He praised the sustained efforts of troops in responding effectively to evolving threats and ensuring stability in the region.
A major focus of the visit was the Army’s growing emphasis on technology-driven warfare capabilities. At the Red Shield Drone Lab in Leimakhong Military Station and the Drone Training Laboratory at Kakching, the GOC reviewed indigenous drone assembly, repair, and specialised drone warfare training initiatives being developed by troops.
He also witnessed demonstrations of in-house innovations designed to improve surveillance, operational efficiency, and troop effectiveness in Manipur’s difficult terrain.
Lt Gen Kalia lauded the Army personnel for adopting a futuristic approach to modern warfare and commended their technical expertise in developing mission-oriented drone solutions tailored to operational requirements.
