FSSAI issues 9 Notices to Swiggy Instamart over alleged food safety violations

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued nine notices to Swiggy Instamart following multiple consumer complaints alleging violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The complaints relate to the supply of expired, spoiled, rotten, contaminated and otherwise unsafe food products through the quick-commerce platform.
According to the food regulator, the notices were issued after consumers raised concerns about the quality and safety of products delivered through Swiggy Instamart. The complaints include allegations of expired food items, contaminated products and other food safety lapses.
FSSAI has directed the food business operator to submit a detailed explanation along with a compliance report addressing the alleged violations. The regulator warned that failure to provide a satisfactory response could invite appropriate legal action under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
The action highlights increased regulatory scrutiny of India's rapidly expanding quick-commerce sector, where platforms handle large volumes of packaged food, groceries, dairy products and fresh produce. Food safety authorities have been intensifying enforcement measures in response to a rise in consumer complaints involving online food and grocery deliveries.
Swiggy Instamart has not yet issued a detailed public response to the latest notices.
